Things I Had to Learn the Hard Way
Some lessons you don’t get taught.
You learn them by going through things you weren’t prepared for.
Growing up in the system taught me a lot—but not always in easy ways.
I had to learn how to adapt quickly.
How to read situations.
How to stay aware.
How to protect my peace, even when I didn’t fully understand what that meant yet.
I had to learn that not everyone is permanent.
That sometimes people come and go, and you don’t always get closure.
I had to learn independence early.
Figuring things out on my own.
Handling things on my own.
Being strong, even when I didn’t feel strong.
But one of the biggest lessons I’m still learning is this:
Just because you had to be strong doesn’t mean you always have to be.
It’s okay to slow down.
It’s okay to heal.
It’s okay to want more than just survival.
I’m still learning what that looks like for me.
Still learning how to grow beyond what I went through.
And that’s what this journey is about.
Not just where I came from—but where I’m going.
